Elastomeric Caulk

DYNA-SEAL™ elastomeric caulk is a high performance elastomeric caulk sealant which adheres to masonry, wood, asphalt, metal, and vinyl for use in a wide variety of roofing, window, door, siding, trim, architectural metal, and general construction applications. DYNA-SEAL™ elastomeric caulk may be applied to damp or oily surfaces even in low temperatures.

The DYNA-SEAL™ family is made up of two products that work together: Brushable elastomeric sealant and elastomeric exterior caulk.

Congratulations! . . . DYNA-SEAL™ ¹ has received the Handyman Club of America Member Tested Seal-of-Approval

Surface Preparation for DYNA-SEAL™ Elastomeric Caulk

Priming is not required on most surfaces, however, if adhesion to a particular substrate is in question, a test patch application is recommended. For best results all surfaces being caulked must be clean and structurally sound. All foreign materials such as dirt, dust, oils, grease, soot, loose paint, etc. should be removed. Do not use Xylol or MEK to clean joints or to remove surface coatings, unless the surface can be allowed to dry before application of the sealant. If the joint is wet with solvent, the sealant will not adhere properly. Contamination from curing agents and form release agents should be avoided.

Applying DYNA-SEAL™ Elastomeric Caulk

Joint Design:
For optimum results, joints should be a minimum of 4 times greater than the anticipated movement. Minimum recommended joint size should be 1/4” x 1/4”. Maximum joint size should be 1/2” wide by 3/8” deep.

Joint Backing:

An open cell backer rod should be used to control joint depth. In shallow joints, a bond breaker tape should be installed toprevent three point contact.

Application and Tooling:

Apply with conventional equipment, filling the joint completely. When temperatures are below 40 degrees F, application will be easier if sealant is warmed. When temperature of the surface exceeds 140 degrees do not apply until the surface cools. A soap and water solution or a solvent such as Xylol may be used as a lubricant for tooling. Do not let tooling agents contaminate open joints.

DYNA-SEAL™ elastomeric caulk may be painted after 24 hours. If using a relatively inflexible paint, allow sealant to dry for 3 days before painting. DYNA-SEAL™ elastomeric caulk may be coated with any latex and most oil based paints. Some paints may crack due to dynamic (moving) joints. See paint manufacturer’s specifications.

Remove caulk material from tools before it cures by scraping and/or using solvents such as Acrylic Thinner, Xylol or MEK.
Cured materials may be removed by cutting with sharp tools. Observe manufacturer’s precautions when using toxic or flammable solvents.
